In 2004, the Down Syndrome Foundation of Orange County began developing The Learning Program, an educational program for students with Down syndrome and their parents. The program supplements formal education through direct instruction to parents and students and monthly home-use materials. With a focus on literacy, math, communication and fine motor skill development, The Learning Program seeks to empower parents as first teachers and improve academic outcomes for students with Down syndrome. The Down Syndrome Association of Greater Toledo is excited to bring The Learning Program to families living in Northwest Ohio and Southern Michigan that support children with Down syndrome!
The Toledo program will run based off of The Learning Program Level 1, which is suggested for children ages 3 through 7. Children may repeat the in-classroom session up to two times, up through Grade 1 (program is not suggested for Grade 2 and above). Parents may enroll in the parents-only session as many times as they wish.
Due to this program being in high-demand, resources being limited, yet wanting to maintain a high-quality educational experience, we are limiting in-classroom enrollment to 12 children. Preference is provided on a first-come, first-served basis based on paid commitment and completed registration paperwork.
