What is World Down Syndrome Day?
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), observed on the 21st of March every year, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012. The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.

Penn Station Round Up for Down Syndrome
We are excited to announce that we are once again partnering with Penn Station East Coast Subs for the “Round Up for Down Syndrome” campaign. Anyone that eats at a Penn Station in the Toledo area will have the opportunity to “round up” their bill to support us! This campaign will run from March 1-21. We hope to see you eating some yummy subs and supporting our local Down syndrome community.

Other Ways to Celebrate 3.21
Rock Your Socks
Why rock your fun socks on WDSD? Individuals with Down syndrome have a third copy of the 21st chromosome and chromosomes look a lot like socks! So in honor of that 3rd chromosome and the uniqueness of individuals with Down syndrome, the day is celebrated by proudly wearing fun socks!
Post pictures in your fun socks on social media and use the hashtag #dsatoledo and #wdsd to help raise awareness. |
Plan an Awareness Event
Planning an awareness event for World Down Syndrome Day signifies that your school, business or organization is committed to celebrating the abilities of people with Down syndrome by engaging others to learn more about how to best accept and include those with Down syndrome. In turn, these acts make our community much stronger! Please note that your awareness event does NOT have to take place ON March 21st; we can provide support for any awareness event throughout the year!
